Foreign Policy Adviser for Finland's National Coalition Party Henri Vanhanhen says Finland would not be afraid of any Russian military threat, noting any potential attack is “not likely”.

The President and Prime Minister of Finland have announced their support for joining NATO, confirming the country intends to apply “without delay”.

Mr Vanhanhen said Finland has had an intense defensive cooperation with NATO members for several years and discussed the threat from Russia.

“I believe that there’s a lot Russia could do without firing a single shot,” he told Sky News Australia.

“We’re not afraid of military attacks, we don’t consider them likely at the moment.”
