Did a multi-billion dollar arms deal buy India's silence? | DW News

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has avoided condemning Russia for its invasion of Ukraine. This week, his country again abstained in a UN resolution deploring Russia's actions. And here's the likely motive: In December Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin signed an arms deal worth billions. Russia will deliver its S-400 advanced missile-defense system. India wants to protect itself against attacks from China and Pakistan.
