The character Draculea, as he is perceived today, appears as an interference between many legends that have circulated over time, between the novel by the Irishman Bram Stoker and between the real, historical facts of Prince Vlad Tepes, also known as Draculea.
Prince Vlad Tepes is an emblematic image, being the subject of many literary and historical creations. Vlad Tepes is mentioned for the first time in history in 1448, when he begins, but also ends his first reign. In 1456, Vlad Tepes ascended the Romanian throne for the second time, until 1462. A period of tumultuous events followed, in which Vlad Tepes fought fiercely against the Ottoman Empire, hatred of this people beginning in childhood. , when he was taken hostage by the Turks and his family was killed by them.
Some stories contain more historical truth than others and have been told so often that they have become true legends of the Romanian people. They evoke real facts, but over time they have been distorted or confused with other events, so the listener must unravel mysteries and unravel the tangled web of events. So it is with the legend of Dracula, who has acquired a mystical aura due to the numerous writings and films that portray him as a ruthless, bloodthirsty vampire. In fact, the story of Count Vlad is quite different from that described by Bram Stocker in the novel "Dracula". So, here is the story of the life of Ţepeş, one of the greatest rulers of the Roman Lands. Thus, the nicknames Dracula / Draculea attributed to Vald Tepes, as well as the character created by Bram Stoker in the novel "Dracula", led to the association and confusion of Prince Vlad Tepes with the legendary character Dracula.
In Stoker's novel, Dracula is a count from Transylvania, a vampire who has been active for centuries, the owner of a castle located somewhere in the Carpathian Mountains, whose description coincides perfectly with that of Bran Castle. It seems that he had an impeccable reputation among vampires, as he would have studied Black Magic at an academy near the city of Sibiu (Hermannstadt).
Can we talk about Vlad Tepes and Dracula as one and the same character? Well, no! Dracula is a fictional character and it is desirable for everyone to distinguish between the historical character Vlad Tepes and the imaginary character Dracula, created by Bram Stoker in the 1897 novel of the same name.
The legend of Count Dracula the world's most famous vampire!
Bram Stoker intended to make a character out of Irish stories. During the research period for the novel, stories about Transylvania came to him - as a mountainous area, remote and with a bloody history, which determined him to change the initial name of the place where the action took place and to establish the character's castle in Transylvania.
In the description of Dracula's castle, Bram Stoker has as a starting point a presentation of Bran Castle, available in nineteenth-century England, which is the only castle in Transylvania, which is why Dracula was associated with Bran Castle.
