Eight people have died and 15,000 homes flooded as water recedes to reveal the scale of the Queensland disaster. Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has confirmed the heavy rain that lashed the state is bigger "than the '74 rainfall", which caused the Brisbane River to burst its banks.
