'Now is the time' for sporting bodies to impose trans athlete bans amid FINA decision

Sky News host Daisy Cousens says swimming's world governing body, FINA, should be “roundly commended for taking the proverbial plunge” and banning trans athletes from competing in women’s swimming.

“FINA simply had to act, and good on them,” Ms Cousens said.

“Anybody who has so much as arm-wrestled with a member of the opposite sex will know that people who go through male puberty have a physical advantage over those who don't.”

She said the trans women in sport issues will only get “bigger and bigger” over the next decade, with young people “disproportionately identifying as trans”.

“If sporting bodies wait until trans women are regularly claiming accolades from females, it will be almost impossible to roll it back.

"Now is exactly the time to enact policies like FINA's.”
